Spanish Companies Achieve a High Score in Workplace Well-Being

  • This is shown by the Well-Being Barometer published by the WHI Institute to mark World Mental Health Day.
  • The NGO sector is the best positioned across the different indicators

Spanish companies have achieved a high score in workplace well-being indicators. These make up the Well-Being Barometer by the WHI Institute. The national study took place over the last 10 months. It analyzed 20 companies across 11 different sectors in collaboration with Happyforce.

The Barometer is released today to mark World Mental Health Day. It measures workplace health through employee, team, and organizational well-being indicators. Participating companies achieved an average score of 7.13 out of 10.

January, Our Best Month

The analysis shows that employee well-being largely depends on personal and professional relationships at work. This factor drives workplace well-being the most. Conversely, emotional health—or rather the lack of it—weighs heaviest on negative scores.

Looking at the results throughout the year, January is the month when employees feel best. This directly coincides with the highest scores for relationships with colleagues.

Regarding teamwork, the WHI Institute Barometer indicates that safety and trust in the work environment determine greater team well-being. In other words, stability is key.

Interestingly, the Social Assistance and Healthcare sector scores lower on assertiveness as a communication skill. However, it achieves the best results in self-confidence regarding their expertise and work.

Purpose Over Motivation

The study also analyzed organizational well-being based on employee motivation and purpose. It reveals that purpose determines organizational well-being far more than employee motivation.

This revealing data suggests a clear need to foster purpose within corporate culture.

Public entities register the lowest results in both indicators. Meanwhile, professional scientific and technical services, the financial sector, and NGOs feel the most motivated and committed.

The NGO Sector Leads in Workplace Well-Being

All indicators show strong scores for the NGO sector. It stands out as the best positioned for workplace well-being. NGO employees work with the highest sense of purpose (8.89), team well-being (8.38), and individual well-being (7.46). These figures suggest that their commitment to causes and positive attitude toward change drastically boost their well-being.

The WHI Institute Well-Being Barometer aims for continuous growth. The organization plans to recruit more companies for its next edition. This will allow for regular analysis of health and workplace well-being in Spanish businesses.
